God was preparing me long before I ever began to write a single page. I didn’t even believe I could write a book. I wanted to keep the pages closed, the memories quiet, the stories safely tucked away where no one could see them. Yet God called me to do something I never planned to do, and obedience is rarely comfortable.
I couldn’t imagine that I had a story worthy of a book. I thought testimonies belonged to other people, with louder miracles, cleaner endings, and stronger faith. But as God began to work through me, page after page, I realized my story was bigger than I understood. My life has not been tidy with a neat little bow wrapped around it. But I promised Him that I would authentically and wholeheartedly deliver the genuine truth to His audience. Because my story isn’t about me; it’s about Him. His patience, His pursuit, His grace in the middle of my messes.
If even one person reads this book and feels seen, or finds courage to move forward, then every terrifying and trembling moment was worth it. I write because God asked me to be brave with my brokenness. And I am learning that obedience, though uncomfortable, is always holy.

Tracy M. Chumbley is a long-time native to East Tennessee, where she was born, raised, and came back to raise her own family. She is married to her beloved husband, Kelly, who is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician. Her lived experiences of a medical marriage and motherhood were highly shaped by various traumas she experienced in her teenage years. These shaped her into the confident, strong, leadership-driven outer layer that covers the dislike of vulnerability or being controlled. By the grace of God, that outer layer has been slowly softened into a compassionate, vulnerable, refreshingly-honest storyteller who seeks to provide hope to those who find themselves in similar circumstances they never expected.
In addition to Are Those Your Real Eyes: Seeing through the Eyes of Faith, she is also a contributor to Fractured to Redeemed: Testimonies of Hope for the Christian Wife (2026), a faith-based anthology of biblical marriage stories from various wives’ perspectives.
Tracy’s mission in writing is to open up about her own testimony so that others with similar stories feel welcome in feeling, processing, healing from, and speaking up about their own stories. She feels strongly that testimonies are tools to be shared, not hidden away, for the sake of helping others.
